Mandalay Bay Convention Center is one of the largest convention facilities in the United States, hosting massive events year-round in the demanding desert climate of Las Vegas. When the property committed to a large-scale renewable energy initiative, the roof became the site of one of the biggest commercial solar installations in the region.

The array called for 8.3 MW of capacity spread across 14,000 squares of mechanically attached Firestone TPO, along with the inverters and conduit that come with it. All of it had to be secured to a roof that stays under extreme heat, UV, and wind load, above a facility that never stops operating.

THE CHALLENGE

Scale, visibility, and environment each added a constraint: Supporting an 8.3 MW solar system across an expansive roof footprint Maintaining watertight integrity on a TPO membrane roof Designing for extreme heat, UV exposure, and wind loads Coordinating installation across 14,000 squares of roof area Delivering a reliable solution for a high-profile, continuously operating facility. At this scale, an attachment method isn't just a detail. It's a decision repeated thousands of times. Anything that installs slowly or inconsistently multiplies across the whole roof.

THE SOLUTION

Anchor Products supplied a U2000-TPO attachment system built for large-scale commercial roofing. Installation ran in October 2014. Cover membrane matched to the Firestone TPO roof High-strength support for solar racking, inverters, and conduit Compression-Free™ watertight seal at every attachment point A scalable detail that repeats consistently across a roof this size The installation team deployed the array efficiently while the roof assembly stayed intact.

THE RESULT

The Mandalay Bay Convention Center solar installation was completed with a watertight attachment solution engineered to perform under extreme environmental conditions, delivering long-term durability while supporting the property's sustainability goals. For solar EPCs, the project is a scale reference: high-capacity rooftop attachment across one of the largest convention center roofs in the country, on a membrane assembly where the attachment detail had to be right the first time and every time.
